After launching 4G services for RIL employees in December last year, Reliance Jio is widely expected to start its commercial operations from next month. For the commercial launch, the company is likely to spend over Rs 1,000 crores,Exchange4media reports.
Back in 2010, Reliance Jio got pan-India 4G license for 2300 Mhz band. However, due to the under-developed handset ecosystem and technological limitations, the company hasn’t launched its services yet. While the commercial launch was expected to take place in December last year, the company went ahead with soft-launch of the services only for RIL employees and their families.
Currently, Airtel has already rolled out its 4G services in more than 350 cities across India. Other competitors such as Idea and Vodafone have also launched its 4G services in top cities, and by the time Reliance Jio launches commercially, its competitors are expected to further expand their reach.
In order to differentiate itself from other operators, Reliance Jio has been betting big on content services such as high-definition TV shows, on-demand video and music streaming at affordable prices. The company is also started rolling out pan-India digital services and is also building apps for cloud storage, music and video streaming and more.
Reliance Digital, the retail arm of Reliance Industries has already launched a series of LYF-range smartphones with VoLTE and VoWiFi support. According to a recent report, the company is also planning to launch LYF-branded 4K UHD smart TVs in 50-inch and 65-inch screen sizes along with content services.
